Proud to have been part of the team that delivered these reports. AI is diverse and rapidly evolving, and so I believe it is important to provide research that policymakers, industry leaders, and the public can use as a foundation for future decision-making. I am grateful to have been able to do that as part of my Industry Analyst role at the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
The reports examine the use of AI across 3 sectors regulated by the ACMA – telecommunications, media and online gambling. Together, they provide an overview of how AI is being discussed, developed and applied within each sector, drawing on publicly available information.
I think one of the most notable aspects of the research is its refusal to use a 'one-size-fits-all' definition of AI. Because AI is applied differently depending on the industry, we examine each sector through its own lens, looking at how terminology and use cases evolve in specific regulatory and market environments. We also situate recent AI developments in Australia within an international context, acknowledging that in the AI space, Australia’s domestic landscape is inextricably linked to global shifts.
